Malout, February 8
Students of Malout Institute of Management and Information Technology (MIMIT) here today lodged a protest outside the principal’s office alleging that the authorities were forcibly getting undertakings from them that they wanted to get their degrees from Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU) and not from the Inder Kumar Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU). However, the college management has dismissed the allegations.
Some protesting students Saurabh, Abhishek and Munish alleged that the college was getting affiliated to the other university and that too without informing the students in a proper way.
“The students who had got admission in the college in 2015 are going to complete their degree in May and now the college is seeking affidavits as consent of change of college’s affiliation,” the students alleged.
On the other hand, Dr Sanjiv Sharma, officiating principal, MIMIT, said, “This is a government college and affiliated to MRSPTU after the latter got established in 2015. The state government had recently passed an ordinance and asked the students who got admission in the year 2015 whether they want to get the degrees from MRSPTU or IKGPTU. But the students did not get the point and lodged a protest. Even the college staff has given a representation of their consent to get affiliated with the IKGPTU. We can only send the request of students and staff to high-ups, which will be done tomorrow.”
