Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu, MLA Talwandi Sabo, distributed 500 sewing machines among ladies of various 25 villages of Talwandi Sabo Sub-division.
Sidhu applauded the efforts of the refinery and said it was helping the needy people of the region at the grassroot level.
He appreciated the self-employment training center being run by the refinery at Phullokhari village. He appealed to the youth to take full benefit of the various self-employment training centers of refinery. In these centers, various courses related to air condition and refrigerator repairing, cutting and tailoring, mobile and home appliances are being run.
The refinery conducted a base-line survey of the villages in the vicinity with the help of sarpanch and panchayats of the villages to identify the major issues. It was found that a number of families in the villages did not have toilets in their houses.
So it was decided to provide fabricated toilets under the Swachh Bharat initiative to ensure open defecation-free houses in the surroundings of the refinery.
The first set of toilets under this initiative was also distributed to the beneficiaries by the MLA and more toilets would be distributed shortly.
