Bathinda, August 8
Adding another feather to its cap, a team of six students of Bachelor of Architecture (third year) from Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, has won the North Zone Design Challenge Competition organised by the Festival of Architecture and Interior Designing (FOAID), Mumbai, this week.
The winning team of students comprising Kajal Sharma, Bhinder Singh, Manpreet Singh, Sukhjit Kaur, Aakarshak Singla and Pushpinder Singh was awarded with a commendation certificate and a cash prize at an event held in Ludhiana after the result was announced on the basis of creativity and design proficiency using unique materials.
The student team was guided by design faculty Jatinder Kaur and Meenu Chaudhary. The theme was “Mughal Era Reverberation” and the idea was to develop a heritage resort in Pondicherry with the building depicting the Mughal era design and aesthetics. The design was developed keeping in mind the important aspects like Pondicherry being a high rainfall zone, covered and semi covered exterior seating areas, incorporation of Mughal art, and noise insulated interiors in order to avoid sound passage from one living area to another. The design prepared by the students incorporated Mughal elements like Char Bagh, pavilions, water bodies, jharokhas, etc.
The judgment was done by leading Architects of Ludhiana — Harinder Singh Boparai and Rajan Tangri. The next stage of the competition is to design an art installation, where the winning student team will participate at the national level.
Ripu Daman Singh, head of the Architecture Department, MRSPTU, lauded the effort of the student team and the faculty guides. He said the Department of Architecture, which has been winning design competition awards at the zonal and national level, had become a sought-after School of Architecture for studying the subject.
MRSPTU Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Registrar Dr Jasbir Singh Hundal and Campus Director Dr Gursharan Singh appreciated the efforts of students.
