Muktsar village school tops district in NMMS exam

Government Senior Secondary School, Kaoni, has set a new record in the district by getting the top position in the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) exam. This is the sixth time in the last seven years when the school has achieved the first position in the district.

This year, seven out of 11 students of the school have cleared the exam.

Notably, NMMS is a centrally sponsored scheme for Class VIII students and the exam is conducted every year on the first Sunday of November by the SCERT, Punjab. A student who qualifies this exam becomes eligible for Rs 12,000 per annum scholarship for four years from Class IX to XII (which means a total of Rs 48,000 in four years).

Jaspal Monga, principal, Government Senior Secondary School, Kaoni, said, “This is a proud moment for us as our students have excelled in the exam every year. This year, Kartik Bhatia of Class VIII has got the first position in the district with 132/180 marks. Besides, Husanpreet Kaur, Kamaldeep Kaur, Navjot Kaur, Kulveer Kaur, Joginderpal Singh and Arshdeep Singh are also selected.”

He added, “There are a total of 70 seats in the entire district and more than 220 schools participated in it. Our school has got 10 per cent (seven out of 70 seats), which is a big success.”
