IELTS coaching classes and immigration centres have been mushrooming in the city, as the craze for settling abroad is weighing heavy on the minds of younger generation.

Areas such as Ajit road have emerged as a hub of coaching institutes for IELTS and other foreign languages. The number of students getting enrolled for the coaching is enough to throw light on the inclination of the young generation in securing sufficient bands to settle abroad.

The ‘outbound student mobility’ has risen significantly which has expanded the ‘study abroad’ market in the city. Hoardings and banners of IELTS (International English Language Testing System) centres and consultant agencies dot every nook and corner of the city.

There was a time when students would go abroad for job prospects or to pursue a postgraduate degree but these days, a majority of Class X and XII pass-outs are attracted towards moving out of the country. The craze to study in foreign universities or colleges among the students has led to the growth of many consultation agencies for overseas education and IELTS coaching centres.

A large number of such institutes have opened in the city during the past years and the process has been still going on. These institutes not only prepare the candidates for IELTS exam but also hone the spoken English skills and help in the overall personality development of the candidates.

According to the immigration experts, the craze to settle abroad and fewer job opportunities in India are the major reasons for the growing trend of studying abroad.

Bhavdeep Kaur, director of Immigration agency said, “Canada and Australia have been the leading destinations for students from Punjab this year. The number of students keen on studying in Canada has increased substantially because of the country’s friendly visa policy.”
