NCC Day celebrated with fervour

Members of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) of Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology (GZSCCET) observed NCC Day at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University on Wednesday.

A ceremonial function was organised at the parade ground of the college wherein Colonel Subhash Chander Gaat, Commanding Officer of 2 Punjab Remount and Veterinary Squadron, Ghudda, was the chief guest on the occasion.

A drill test, horse riding show, speech competition, cultural programme and other skills display of bravery, patriotism and defence were major attractions of the event. Traditional folk dances of different states were also performed on the theme of Unity in Diversity. Dances representing rich traditions of Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, North East and Gujarat were also presented.

The function started with the guard of honour to welcome the chief guest. The NCC flag was hoisted with the recitation of NCC song. Cadets saluted and honoured the flag and carried out the march past on musical drum beat.

In her welcome address, campus director Savina Bansal emphasised on the importance of devotion, dedication and sincerity in a student’s life. She inspired the students to focus on their target and make tireless efforts to achieve it.

Rajeev Kumar Varshney, ANO (Associate NCC Officer) of 20 Punjab Batallion of NCC, briefed the audience about the achievements of NCC cadets and their activities during the session.

The horse riding show was presented by the students of the colleges of Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology, Dashmesh Girls College, Badal, and Punjabi University neigbourhood campus, Ghudda.

The audience was left spellbound by the mesmerising performance of these courageous students. Underprivileged children of slums also presented their cultural items. The programme concluded with the presentation of medals and certificates to cadets by the chief guest.
