Bathinda, February 14
The dustbins installed by the Municipal Corporation, Bathinda, at Paras Ram Nagar, cloth market and Goniana road have been either stolen or damaged.
MCB officials find it hard to understand as why these dustbins are being targeted by anti-social elements.
Earlier, when the MCB was planning to purchase and install new dustbins of worth Rs 22 lakh, Bathinda Tribune had highlighted the issue.
The MCB installed 180 stainless steel dustbins in the city, most of which have been either stolen or damaged.
At that time, MCB officials had claimed that they were using the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan funds for purchasing these dustbins and they would keep a close eye so that these were not damaged or stolen.
Irked over these incidents, the MCB has written to the city police for registering a case against the accused. They demanded a probe and strict action against the accused.
Senior deputy mayor Tarsem Goyal said it was an unnecessary expenditure incurred by the MCB as from day one, it was clear that people would not leave these dustbins, if past experience was anything to go by.
