Members of the CIA staff arrested two persons, including a Nigerian, from Delhi for drug peddling on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference, police officials said a trap was laid following the arrest of a local resident who used to buy drugs from the accused.
Superintendent of Police (Detective) Swaran Singh Khanna said this during a press conference on Thursday.
Khanna said, “On August 18, ASI Kripal Singh of the CIA staff arrested Gurpreet Singh at the Katar Singh Wala bus stand on the Mansa road. As much as 50 gms of heroin was recovered from his possession. After interrogation of Gurpreet, it came to the fore that the heroin was actually supplied by Tarun Kumar from Uttal Nagar, Delhi. Tarun had taken it from another peddler of Nigerian origin, Peter, to sell it further. A case was registered against Gurpreet Singh at the Sadar police station.”
The police said the Nigerian native had passed Class XII and had come to India as he traded in readymade garments.
He came in contact with another Nigerian who was into supply of drugs. He used to meet him at the Dwarka police station and was getting heroin for Rs 800 per gm and then used to sell it further at Rs 900–Rs 1,000.
The police said Tarun had already been booked in a number of cases related to heroin smuggling in the past.
The police raided and arrested Tarun Kumar from Indira Park, Uttam Nagar, New Delhi, and based on information provided by him, Peter alias Jerry was traced to Mohan Garden, New Delhi.
They were produced before a local court in Bathinda in the evening. The court sent them in police custody. Interrogation is on to establish further links in the case.
