Government Polytechnic College, Bathinda, has been conferred with the outstanding institution award 2013-14 by the National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh.
The principal of the college, Yadwinder Singh, said the Government of India had also accorded the community college status to Government Polytechnic College The college would now be an IIT Mumbai’s online resource centre that would train IIT Mumbai students online, he added.
He dedicated the award to the staff and the students of the institute.
The chief guest, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, Dr AK Grover, Padam Bhushan Dr KK Talwar and director, NITTTR, Dr MP Poonia gave the award to principal Yadwinder Singh at an award ceremony.
The additional director of the Technical Education Department, HP Singh, head of the department of the college, Manjit Singh Bhullar, and senior lecturer Dr Harjiv Kumar were also present on the occasion.
The director, NITTTR, Dr MP Poonia, said these colleges were performing well in imparting education and had become role models for other colleges.
The principal said for this award, the NITTTR had sought applications from all private and government colleges of north India, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab and Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Out of all the applications received, only Government Polytechnic College, Bathinda, was selected for the award.
The award is based on the analysis of achievements of the last three years, including placements, staff training, admissions, results and infrastructure among other things.
Earlier in 2008-09, the NITTTR had conferred best polytechnic college award on Government Polytechnic College.
