Now, public can use toilets at petrol pumps under MC limits

BATHINDA: Now toilets at the petrol pumps within the municipal corporation limits can be used by public.

Now toilets at the petrol pumps within the municipal corporation limits can be used by public. For this, the health wing of the MC has also issued notification.

According to this notification, the corporation has declared the toilets of all petrol pumps in Bathinda city as public toilets.

The corporation has ordered all the pump owners that if any person uses their toilet, then they should not stop them. In the coming days, the corporation is also planning to announce the toilets of hotels, restaurants and banks as public toilets which can be opened for public use.

In the new guidelines of Cleanliness Survey 2018, it is stated that pumps can be used as public toilets. For this, the corporation has made a list of city pumps. It is mentioned in the list which petrol pump toilets are ready to be used as public toilets.

In the Cleanliness Survey 2018 released guidelines emphasis has been laid on various improvements. Information about public toilets will be given online. Public will be able to comment online about the condition of toilets. Competitions will also be organised in hotels, schools, resident welfare societies so as to focus on cleanliness.

Apart from this, the corporation is raising public toilets in the city and so far 20 public toilets have been constructed. This decision has been taken due to the lack of public toilets in the city.

For the past two years on behalf of the Central Government, cleanliness survey is being conducted in various cities across the country, with a motive to create awareness amongst people regarding city’s cleanliness system besides it also brings out problems and where the system is lacking.

In the last two years, the survey has found that according to the population in the city, there is a shortage of public toilets in the market. In such a situation, the Central Government has taken several important decisions in the cleanliness survey guide lines -2018. It also includes the decision to declare petrol pumps to public toilets.

Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said it has been done under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as there was a shortage of public toilets, toilets at pumps had been declared as public toilets.
