One-day training programme organised on World Rabies Day

To observe World Rabies Day, the District Health Department organised one-day training programme for medical and paramedical staff at the Civil Surgeon’s office here on Thursday. Dr Amrik Singh Sandhu, Civil Surgeon, while addressing staff members, said, “Rabies is a fatal disease but patients can be saved if timely treated.” 

 Dr Sandhu said, “Animal bite or scratch must not be ignored. The wound must be washed immediately and without any delay patient need to visit a hopsital to see a doctor. If there is a wound of dog bite then home-based remedies/ treatment such as use of chilly, oil, limestone or any other herbs must be avoided. There are 13 anti-rabies centres in the district. Rabies vacciantion is done on 3rd, 7th and 21st days after animal bite.” — TNS
