The road joining Parasram Nagar and Behman Diwana village is in bad shape. Almost 400 feet of the road is in ruins and cries for immediate attention as the road is increasingly being used by commuters.

Despite the fact that the road plies thousands of vehicles towards and from Behman Diwana village, the Municipal Corporation is yet to wake up from its deep slumber and address the problem. The situation has come to such a pass that the complaints of residents, commuters and councillors of the area have fallen on deaf ears.

Notably, the condition of the road was brought to the attention of the MC authorities during the general house meeting which was conducted on Wednesday. Councillor of Ward No. 42 Gursewak Mann, councillor of Ward No. 46 Harwinder Sharma and councilor of Ward No. 44 Nrimal Singh had demanded that the road be laid as soon as possible as it’s bad condition was causing trouble to commuters.

“Over all these years, all that we have got in the name of development works are mere promises. And that is what we got in yesterday’s meeting as well. It seems that the MC is least interested in developing areas across the railway lines despite the fact that MC mayor’s ward also lies in the same area,” said Gursewak Mann.

Councillor Harwinder Sharma said while the authorities chose to look the other way, the potholes on the road were leading to several accidents, especially during the monsoon season when these are invisible due to waterlogging.

The councillors said almost four months back, the MC had promised that recarpeting of the road would be done soon but nothing had been done till now. They said the mayor had promised during the general house meeting as well that the road would be laid again but only after laying sewerage pipes in the remaining parts of the road.

They further stated that they were hopeful that this time the MC would keep its promise and also threatened that in case MC backtracks, they would stage protests to get their demand heeded.
