Bathinda, December 4

The strike of the Revenue Patwari Union and kanungos entered its 14th day on Tuesday.

Officials of the Revenue Department have been staging protest from the past two weeks in the old tehsil complex area in the city.

The protesters raised slogans against the state government. Residents are also affected due to the protest as officials have suspended work due to the protest for the past two weeks.

People who are coming for the work at the patwarkhana are returning disappointed, seeing the office lying vacant.

Revenue Patwari Union district president Gurtej Singh Pakka, general secretary Balour Singh Sidhu and cashier Balwinder Singh said their demands were being delayed by the government.

They claimed that many times, through various resolutions, they have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner, but till date their issues have not been resolved.

The leaders said the police were interfering with the work and registering cases against patwaris, despite the fact that the DGP, Punjab, had issued a letter to all SSPs, directing that without probe or view of Deputy Collector or local official, cases should not be registered against patwaris.

Further, they claimed that in all patwarkhanas, there were no facilities of drinking water and proper toilets.

In the district, there are six posts of kanungo lying vacant for the past one year. A patwari has been officiating on these posts while kanungos have not been appointed. — TNS
