PCS results out, youngsters from Bathinda, Mansa make a mark

Youngsters of Bathinda and Mansa districts have have brought laurels by clearing the PCS exam.

Twenty four-year-old Khushpreet Kaur did not lose her hope after joining as a Probationary Officer in the SBI and continued her preparation for the PCS in her second attempt. She secured 40th rank and is one among the 120 officers selected for different civil and the police department. “I failed in interview in my last year attempt. But I did not lose my hope and confidence. I studied at St Kabir Schol and then did BDS from a private Guru Nanak Dev Dental College, Sunam. Later, I joined as a Probationary Officer at the SBI. I had opted for the SDM and the ETO post.”

Anmoldeep Singh from Mansa had topped in the Punjab State Civil Services Combined Competitive Examinations 2013, while Neeraj Kumar of Budhlada and Priyanka Goyal of Mansa had bagged 13th and 27 positions, respectively. The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) has selected 120 officers in different departments, including the civil and the police department.

Neeraj Kumar (27) from Budhlada town of Mansa district brought laurels to his town and the family by bagging 13th rank in the PCS exam. Educated from the IIT, Guwahati, he was placed in an MNC in Noida. But in 2012, he opted to quit his job as a senior design engineer after working for three years and then he started preparing for his exam.

“I cleard IAS exam but failed in interview last year. However, this was my second attempt and I achieved the success. Hard work and patience are needed to achieve the goal as one should continue with the efforts. I left the job to prepare for exams. I did my Class XII from Guru Nanak College, Budhlada, and my father is a bank manager. For the preliminary exam, more than 30,000 candidates had appeared whereas for the PCS mains, only over 1,100 appeared and more than 350 were called for interview out of which 120 were selected.”

Priyanka Goyal (25), a qualified dentist, secured 27th position in the PCS exam while last year, she could not clear the exam. However, to become an SDM was her priority. But she is convinced to have achieved the second option she sought for the post of an Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO).

Daughter of Bheem Chand, a senior assistant at the ITI, Mansa, is MSc and MBA qualified while she attempted for the second time and secured 27th rank in Punjab.

“Having low literacy rate, the district is tagged as rural and backward. But now, our success will remove this tag. Formula of discipline and dedicated hard work to achieve the goal is a reason behind my success that I had learnt from my father. I opted for the post of SDM and the ETO and now, after three months preparation, I would achieve the post. The preliminary exam was conducted in March 2014 whereas the exam for mains was held in July 2014 followed by Interview in month of February 2015.”
