Police Colony at Lal Singh Nagar paints a picture of neglect. Around 250 families of police personnel are living in the colony.
Residents alleged that since the colony came up, the authorities concerned had not even bothered to renovate the quarters.
Besides, the road leading to the colony is in a dilapidated condition and it seems that the authorities are unaware of its condition.
A policeman, who did not wish to be quoted, said, “The building constructed near the gate of the colony is supposed to be a grocery store for the convenience of colony residents. But due to the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities concerned, the grocery store has turned into a place for the gatekeeper.”
On a number of occasions, they had taken up the issue of the deplorable condition of the colony with higher officials, but to no avail, he added.
Himanshu Kumar, a colony resident, said, “Over the years, the park inside the colony has become one of the favourite places for stray cattle. Besides, the boundary wall has also broken from various points, which increases the possibility of theft in the area. Though several theft cases were reported from the area over the years, higher officials have turned a blind eye to the issue.”
SSP Naveen Singla, said, “We have already given a proposal for the renovation of Police Colony at Lal Singh Nagar to the authorities concerned. We are not being able to renovate the colony due a shortage of funds. As soon as we get the funds from the government, the colony will be renovated.”
