Poster-making contest marks Women’s Day

A poster-making competition was organised on Monday at Government Rajindra College by its NSS unit to mark International Women’s Day. The event was organised under the guidance of Prof Paramdeep and Prof Amla Sharma. As many as 150 students participated in the seminar and poster-making competition.

Presiding over the function, the former regional director of DAV School in the city, Latika, said all holy scriptures derided the violence against women. She further said while persons belonging to different religions abide by their scriptures, they don’t follow their teachings when it comes to respecting women.

The zoology department of the college had organised the poster-making competition on the topic “Female Feoticide”. While Amritpal Kaur won the first place in the competition, the second place was bagged by Kulwinder Singh and the third place went to Chetna and Sheetal.

Baba Farid College of Education also celebrated International Women’s Day in association with the District Legal Services Authority, Bathinda. Tejwinder Singh, District & Session Judge, Bhatinda, was the chief guest of the event. Rajwinder Kaur, Additional Sessions Judge, Jasbir Kaur (PCS), secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Bathinda, advocate Kamaljeet Singh Kuti, advocate Mandeep Kaur, Gurpreet Kaur, sub-inspector, Punjab Police, Navdeep Singh Jidda, president, District Bar Council, Bathinda, and other dignitaries were also present during the event.

Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, chairman, BFGI, welcomed the guests and said the youth must fight against the people involved in domestic violence and committing unjustified acts towards women. He further added that men and women were two wheels of a same vehicle called society and it was necessary for both of them to walk together for the creation of a healthy society.”

The chief guest of the event, Tejwinder Singh, said, “The women should be educated and civilised enough to educate their families.”

Rajwinder Kaur explained about women rights and also informed about strict laws against dowry, female foeticide, eve-teasing and domestic violence. Jasbir kaur emphasised on equality between men and women. Advocate Mandeep Kaur spoke on the importance and reason behind celebrating International Women’s Day.
