PRTC buses in bad shape, need to be revamped

With the cold wave intensifying in the region, PRTC buses with broken doors and windows continue to ply on the state roads, giving a tough time to commuters.

A number of commuters alleged that they find it very difficult to travel in these buses during harsh winters. Besides, during the recent rainfall, the rain water started coming inside the buses while roof of some buses was leaking.

Harbans Singh, a commuter, said, “I travel from Talwandi Sabo to Bathinda in PRTC buses daily. The buses in which I commute are not in a good condition. The broken windows and doors, besides poor condition of seats make our journey painful, but we have no other option but to commute in these buses.”

Gurkeerat Kaur, another commuter, said, “Seats are in a bad shape in these buses. Most of the time these seats get broken and passengers receive head injuries.”

A PRTC employee, pleading anonymity, said, many times they had intimated the higher officials for repairing buses, but to no avail. He further stated that even the workshop in-charge personally submits the quotations for it, but every time higher officials neglect their demands and at times cut short their list of demands.

Surender Singh, general manager, PRTC, said, “Though we are time and again repairing the buses, but still if some buses are not in a good condition we will do the needful at the earliest. Moreover, I will personally cross-check the buses’ condition and get them fixed to provide better facility to the passengers.”
