Members of the Unemployed PTI Teachers Union today convened a meeting at Teachers’ Home here and raised anti-government slogans.
While the members of the union were convening the meeting inside the building, the police personnel deputed at Teachers’ Home remained on their toes to avoid any attempt by the teachers to take out a protest rally in the city.
The teachers were later assured of a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, Dr Basant Garg, on March 30.
During the meeting, the union leaders said the teachers had long been waiting for the fulfilment of promises made by the SAD-BJP government pertaining to their demands and added that the union had decided to take up a fight against the government.
Elaborating their demands, the union leaders said they want the number of posts increased to 1,600 from the current 646 posts. They added that the 646 posts, which were advertised on May 7, 2011, should be filled with PTI teachers who had submitted their candidature till that date.
They added that for the remaining posts, the department must first recruit the unemployed PTI teachers before advertising for vacant posts.
The union leaders also demanded that to give impetus to sports in the state, the state Education Department must recruit PTI teachers for primary schools as well.
