Renowned Punjabi singer of the Malwa region, Dharampreet, today committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his house in Patel Nagar.
As the news of his suicide spread in the region, a pall of gloom descended over Punjabi song lovers and city residents.
Investigating officer ASI Harmanjit Singh said the deceased singer had returned last night from Amritsar after performing at a show. After dinner, he went to his room. When he did not come out till 9 am next day, his family members knocked at his door, but nobody answered. After that, his mother called the neighbours who then broke open the door. To their shock, they found that Dharampreet’s body was hanging from a ceiling fan. After the news went viral, many fans and friends started gathering in a large numbers at his house. DSP Janak Singh and the Cant police station team reached the spot and started the investigation.
ASI Harmanjit Singh stated that as per the mother of the deceased, there was no dispute with anyone and as per her statement, the police have taken action under Section 174 of the CrPC.
