“Looking at the lackadaisical attitude of the Central Government regarding the discussion on the UGC Pay Review Committee’s Report, members of the All-India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations participated in a rally at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi today for uniform implementation of the new pay scales for university and college teachers across the country. Those who couldn’t participate in the rally wore black badges and refrained from Teacher’s Day celebrations at their institutions,” the teachers said.

The added that the Central Government was planning to implement the UGC pay scale while completely ignoring the recommendations made by the Prof Chouhan Committee.

The teachers stated that they would follow the call made by the AIFUCTO as the union was working towards making the motive of the government public.

They said the government wanted to withdraw all financial responsibility from higher education.

The professors added that their other demands included filling up of vacant posts on permanent basis, regularisation of service conditions and pay scales of ad-hoc and temporary teachers, extension of old pension scheme for all teachers, removal of anomalies of the 6th Pay Commission, extension of dates for refresher and orientation courses to December 31 and keeping aside at least 10 per cent of the GDP for education, apart from giving more powers to the University Grants Commission and All-India Council for Technical Education.
