Bathinda, February 19
Residents of the Naruana Road area today complained that they were getting contaminated water supply for the past two weeks, which increased risk to various water-borne diseases. A group of residents today staged protest against the Municipal Corporation and raised slogans.
Balbir Singh, a resident of Naruana road said, “We are living under constant threat of contracting disease as the water being supplied in residential areas is contaminated, often yellow in colour and emanates smell.”
He said we were compelled to drink contaminated and stinking water as their repeated requests to replace rusted and broken water supply pipes had fallen on deaf ears of the MCB and Triveni company officials. Paramajit Kaur said, “Safe drinking water is the right of every citizen and authorities have denied this to us for a long time.”
She said during elections, politicians promised to provide adequate and clean water in the area, but after the completion of the electoral process, they forgot to fulfil their promise.
Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said providing clean drinking water to all residents was their main aim and they were working on it. He said for this, they had sanctioned Rs 288 crore to cover the entire city under water supply and sewerage network. He also stated that Triveni is working to resolve this issue and it will be resolved in a day or so. — TNS
