As the tension between India and Pakistan is escalating after the surgical strikes conducted by the Indian Army on Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), city residents have decided to burn an effigy of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during the Dussehra celebrations at the Dussehra ground of Partap Nagar.

Former councillor Vijay Kumar organises a function every year to celebrate Dussehra at Partap Nagar. This year, the organisers of the function have decided to burn an effigy of the Pakistan Prime Minister, along with effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkaran.

While talking to Bathinda Tribune, Vijay Kumar said 51-feet tall effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkaran would be burnt while a 50-feet tall effigy of Nawaz Sharif would be burnt.

He also said a special fight between Ram and Ravana would be displayed at 40 feet above in the air with the help of cranes during the celebrations.

The former councillor said during the fight, the whole ground would witness a display of special lights for five minutes as 200 Anar crackers would be burnt at the same time. Special rockets would also be used for an electrifying effect at the function, he added.

Vijay Kumar said on the same day, a shobha yatra would be taken out at 1 pm, passing through major markets of the city.

Sri Sanatan Dharam Mahavir Dal will celebrate Dussehra at the ground of MSD School, located at Hanuman Chowk. President Chiranji Lal Garg and Rajan Garg said before burning effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkaran, students of the school would present cultural items. Students who have performed well in academics will be honoured, they added.
