Councillor Rajinder Singh Sidhu was released from jail in an abetment of suicide case on Friday night after he got bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
SAD leaders went to welcome him while the complainant in the case lashed out at the party for glorifying and supporting leaders involved in criminal cases.
In a press release, councillor Tarloch Singh criticised SAD leaders for welcoming Rajinder Singh Sidhu.
He said former MLA Sarup Chand Singla, Mayor Balwant Rai Nath and others had claimed that Rajinder Singh Sidhu was suspended from the party stating till the time he was not acquitted in the case.
He said SAD’s anti-Dalit face and double standards were exposed when SAD leaders headed by Sarup Chand Singla welcomed Rajinder Singh Sidhu at the gate of the jail when he came out.
Even the Rathore community has also questioned Harsimrat Badal, telling her to clear stand on the issue.
Members of the community said by openly supporting Rajinder Sidhu, SAD had insulted the soul of the poor Dalit girl.
They threatened that SAD had to pay the price for hurting the sentiments of the Rathore community.
AAP leader Deepak Bansal also lashed out at SAD leaders for glorifying the accused who had come out on bail and not been acquitted in the case.
He said this had exposed SAD that they support and promote people with criminal background.
On May 28, Akali councillor from Ward No. 3 and Gurdwara Singh Sabha president Rajinder Singh Sidhu was arrested in an abetment of suicide case on the complaint of another SAD councillor Tarloch Singh, a relative of the deceased woman.
Sidhu was nabbed after an audio clip of him purportedly talking to the victim surfaced on the social media a few days ago.
As the matter reached SSP Naveen Singla, he ordered a probe by DSP Gurpreet Singh, who found the councillor “guilty”.
The victim had allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at a park here on February 27. She was reportedly found three-month pregnant.
