It seems that the hopes of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders are sinking as the Rs 288 crore water supply and sewerage project, in which they have reposed their faith, and perceived it to be a game-changer, couldn’t be completed.
Triveny company, which was assigned the project, has completed only 25 per cent work so far.
In 2015, SAD had roped in the Noida-based Triveni company for providing 100 per cent sewerage and water supply in the city.
SAD leaders were expecting that the project would be finished before the Assembly elections.
There are a large number of complaints over sewage overflow in the city lodged on the toll-free numbers, which it is said, have not been resolved by the company.
The other charge levelled against the company is that it would rarely complete a work started at one site. Most of the works have been left midway due to which residents have to face inconvenience.
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal also held many review meetings with officials of the company and told them to complete the project before the elections.
Later, he even deputed his OSD, Monish Kumar, to look into the progress of the project. But despite all efforts, the work of the company failed to come on track.
In the recent MCB general house meeting, the Sewerage Board XEN had stated that only 25 per cent work had been complete so far.
Congress councillor Jagroop Singh Gill said the SAD-BJP kept on initiating projects with an eye on elections.
Roads have been dug up and sewage is overflowing at many places in the city due to which residents have to face problems, he added.
He demanded a probe into the project, which involved huge public money.
Bathinda (Urban) MLA Sarup Chand Singla admitted that the work of Triveni company was below expectations and the authorities would annul the agreement if the company didn’t work properly and complete it before the deadline.
