Sessions judge visits Central Jail

District and Sessions Judge Paramjeet Singh today visited the Central Jail, Bathinda. He was accompanied by Manjinder Singh, Additional District Judge, Varun Nagpal, Civil Judge (senior division), Sucheta Asish Dev, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dr Mandeep Mittal, CJM/Secretary, district legal services authority, Reeta Hans, Civil Judge (Junior Division), Karanvir Singh, Civil Judge (Junior Division).

The District and Sessions Judge also paid a visit to hospital, factory, re-habilitation centre, female ward and sports centre. Many of the convicts requested that they want to file appeal against conviction orders passed against them and thereafter, directions were issued to Superintendent of Central Jail, Bathinda, to send their appeal to the High Court Legal Services Committee and Supreme Court Legal Services Committee, wherever required.

He also assured the inmates that they would get a speedy trial, in case the period of their detention is long and noted down the names of various inmates who requested for speedy trial.

He interacted with those inmates who were in need of legal help and directed the CJM/Secretary to take necessary action for providing free legal aid to the inmates who are in need of legal help and support. He visited the kitchen and tasted the food.

Paramjeet Singh, District and Sessions Judge, Bathinda, also interacted with Para Legal Volunteers, who have been deputed to help the illiterate and needy prisoners in writing down their grievances.

A separate list was prepared for the under-trials who are in Jail for a long time and their challans have not been presented. The convicts and undertrials were further encouraged to continue yoga and to channelize their energy for the well being of mankind and nature.
