Sewer workers to go on strike from Feb 11

BATHINDA: Members of the Sewer Men Union on Friday announced that they would go on strike from February 11 over non-fulfillment of their long pending demands.

Bathinda, Febraury 8

Members of the Sewer Men Union on Friday announced that they would go on strike from February 11 over non-fulfillment of their long pending demands.

Union president Sham Lal in the general house meeting alleged that no one was serious about resolving the issues of sewermen. He also alleged that files of two persons were not cleared despite repeated meetings with the Mayor and other officials. Besides, a woman employee has been waiting for her salary for the last 12 months. “With the expanding limits and growing population of the city, the number of sewermen should also be increased to ease the burden of work on the existing employees,” Sham Lal added.

He also claimed that step-motherly treatment was meted out to sewermen as just around 135 sewermen were maintaining the city sewerage system.—TNS
