Sikh bodies seek speedy probe into incident

Sikh organisations, under the banner of Eknoor Khalsa Fauj and Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee, today staged a protest against the desecration of a religious text at a gurudwara in Bhagta village of the district. They claimed that the incident of desecration took place twice in a week. It was first reported on June 17 and then on June 25 where the pages of the religious book were found torn. In the second incident, slogans in support of the ruling dispensation at the Centre were found written but no arrests have so far been made by the police in this connection, the organisations alleged. Ajit Singh Khose, president of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee, Amritsar, said, “There have been numerous incidents of desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib but the government has failed to nab the accused. We have been demanding for long that the police should find those involved in the act. Nothing has been done in this regard as the government is not serious towards it. We have given a memorandum to the DC, who has assured us of speedy investigation in the case.” Bhai Ranjit Singh, another leader, said, “The DC has assured of speeding up the probe but the government has made an eye-wash of these. We fear a conspiracy to create a divide between the communities through the desecration of holy books of different religions.” — TNS
