Society cannot grow sans social sciences: Expert

The Teaching Learning Centre of Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, under Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teaching and Learning (PMMMNMTT) organised an opening ceremony of “One Week National Workshop on Philosophical and Methodological Foundations in Social Sciences” sponsored by MHRD at the premises.
Faculty members from different states across the country participated in the workshop.
During the inaugural session, Prof RK Kohli, Vice-Chancellor, Prof P Ramarao, Dean, Academic Affairs, coordinator of Teaching Learning Centre Dr Vinod Arya and other members welcomed the guests.
A keynote address was given by Dr Aarti Srivastava from National Institute of Education, Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi. She mentioned that society could not grow without social sciences. The emphasis on higher education is shifting from university to multiversity. She deliberated on the integration of local knowledge in the teaching curriculum.
Prof RK Kohli in his brief speech mentioned that teaching and learning played a vital role in shaping the career of students as well as teachers. He laid stress on need to develop indigenous approaches for the uplift of society.
Dr Naresh Singla, organising secretary, Teaching Learning Centre, explained the idea behind the workshop and invited faculty members of various disciplines in social sciences from different states to share their experiences and enrich teaching and learning process. Prof VK Garg, Director, TLC, congratulated the team of Teaching Learning Center for organising such a relevant and enlightening national workshop.
