Bathinda, April 16
The Unemployed 849 PTI Teachers Union will hold a state-level rally in Bathinda tomorrow. Through the rally, the teachers will announce to intensify their stir against the state government in favour of their long-pending demands, which the government allegedly has been ignoring over the years.
Elaborating on the union’s demands, state president of the union Manjit Singh Chauke said in 2006, the state government had announced 849 posts of PTI teachers in the state, but teachers with higher qualifications were not considered against these posts. He further said despite the court ruling in favour of the candidates who were not considered for recruitment, the state government is yet to finalise the recruitment and is shying away from filing an affidavit pertaining to the issue in the court.
Manjit Singh said in the year 2011, the state government had opened the recruitment process and some teachers were recruited, but the entire process was marred by the fact that the teachers recruited did not meet the eligibility criteria.
Chauke said it was a sad situation for teachers as due to the procrastination by the government in completing the process they had now crossed the age eligibility criteria for these posts and were sitting idle despite having MPEd, MPhil and PhD.
The union members threatened that in case the state government continued to delay the recruitment of PTI teachers, the union would intensify its stir. The union members also urged all the unemployed PTI teachers to participate in the state -level rally to be held at Teachers’ Home on Sunday to make it a success.
