Street play artistes spread message of cleanliness

On the second day of the Natyam Theatre Festival, the Natyam Theatre Group strategically chose the street play ‘Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat’ to be performed across the city as the nation celebrated the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Indian prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The day also marked the first anniversary of the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan ‘ launched by Prime Ministr Narendra Modi.

The play, written by Bhupinder Utreja, was presented by the Natrang theatre group from Abohar. The play was directed by Sunil Verma.

Elaborating on the play, director of the Natyam Theatre Group, Kirti Kirpal said the play exhorted the audience to keep their surroundings clean to ensure a green and healthy lifestyle. Taking a dig at the public’s careless attitude towards maintaining cleanliness, the artistes stated that we must start by stopping ourselves from making our surroundings dirty.

The artistes showcased how we litter the streets to keep our houses clean. They stated that we must start from our homes to make sure that the country is clean.

The play was presented at Bhatti Road, cloth market, Gandhi Market, Ajit Road, Government Rajindra College, Balla Ram Nagar, Hazura Kapura Colony, Joggers’ Park and Mittal Mall.

Kirti Kirpal stated that starting Saturday, October 3, the group will begin showcasing its stage plays at the Balwant Gargi Open Air Theatre at the Rose Garden.
