Even as the tussle between students and bus operators over bus fare in Talwandi Sabo has yet not settled, a student of Government Rajindra College today accused a conductor of the Deep Bus Service and his two friends of beating him up when he asked the latter for giving him back the change.

Following the incident, members of the Punjab Students Union Shaheed Randhawa reached the bus stand and lodged a complaint against the bus conductor at the bus stand police post.

The police immediately began an enquiry into the matter and assured the students that action would be taken in the matter.

The union announced that it would stage protests in case the police failed to take any action against the accused.

Talwandi Sabo resident Amarjit Singh, a student of BSc (medical part 2), said he usually travelled to college by PRTC bus and paid Rs 15 for ticket.

“Today, I took a Deep Transport bus and paid the conductor Rs 20 but when I asked him to pay me back Rs 5, he began arguing with me. After refusing to give me the change, the conductor and three others beat me up,” he said.

Amarjit, who himself is a PSU member, informed the union about the incident following which, union members joined him and got a complaint registered at the bus stand police post.

Meanwhile, head constable Malkit Singh said the bus in question was going from Talwandi Sabo to Amritsar via Bathinda and had left the bus stand by the time the matter was brought to his notice.

He said the conductor would be called for questioning on Saturday and action would be taken against him in case he was found guilty.
