Students take out HIV/AIDS awareness rally

Students and staff members of SSD College of Professional Studies at Bhokhra, Bathinda, organised a rally to make public aware of HIV/AIDS, drug abuse and voluntary blood donation under Red Ribbon Club here today.

The rally started around 10.30 am from Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), Goniana, and concluded at Hanuman Mandir, Goniana. College students and staff used handmade posters, slogans and flex to make the public aware.

The campaign was flagged off by the management, principal Dr Rajesh Singla, staff and members of the Red Ribbon Club of the college. Dr Rajesh Singla, nodal officer, in his speech said the Red Ribbon was the worldwide symbol of spot and awareness for people living with HIV/AIDS. He said HIV caused AIDS and interfered with the body’s ability to fight infection. If detected early, a regular consultation and proper treatment help in fighting infection and allows a patient to live long.

Prof Narinder Mehra said the youth must say no to drugs. Student members of the club, under the guidance of Prof Jagsir Singh and Prof Mukesh, highlighted voluntary blood donation. They emphasized that blood donation was the most significant contribution one can make towards society.
