Teacher unions pay tributes to Ruth

Various members of the teachers’ union gathered to pay tribute to Ruth, who died last year due to cold during the Shaheed Kiranjot Kaur Action Committee (Punjab) protest.

A remembrance function was organised today at the Teachers’ Home in the city. Many members of the EGS, the AIE, the STR organisations reached here during a procession with Ruth’s picture pasted on the buses.

A large number of police personnels were deployed in the city after getting the information about the function. A calendar with Ruth’s picture was also released.

During the procession, Ruth’s parents had also reached the function and their eyes were full of tears while giving the tribute to their daughter. They said that their daughter had sacrificed her life for the demands of thousands of teachers. They added that Ruth had died on February 6 last year and this year.

Committee leader, Veerpal Kaur, said their protest had intensified against the state government for getting job and during which Ruth had died. In this function, other organisations than Shaheed Kiranjeet Kaur action committee who paid tribute to Ruth are Lok Morcha Punjab, Bharatiya Kisan Union, TSU etc.

Leaders also stated Ruth had died due to negligence by the state government. They also stated that education sector in the state is over. As earlier, they had been given the name of the teacher and now, they are been taken work as a volunteers. They also stated that today, when they were coming to pay tribute to Ruth, policemen were deployed in a large number. We were not coming to stage protest here today.

They also stated that government should regularise them at the earliest and till the time they will not be regularise by the state government their protest would continue.
