Prince is a nephew of Ram Singh, who is the president of the Malout Municipal Council and is confidant of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
In a complaint lodged with the police, he has stated that he was facing loss in the business and he had some pending debt on him. So, to return money, he took Rs 9 lakh from his relative at Home Land Enclave in the evening.
Around 5.30 pm, he kept the bag containing money in his Ecosport car and left towards Barnala the by-pass road.
As he reached near Ballaram Nagar chowk, a black-coloured Scorpio car came from behind and stopped in front of his car, he said.
They started asking directions from him and meanwhile, two persons came out from the Scorpio car and entered his car, he added. Pointing pistol at him, they directed him to move, he said.
He added that they told him to stop the car near Bibiwala chowk and took away his bag containing the money. Prince also stated that the all accused were without any mask and their car number had digits 7777.
DSP Karansher said they were checking CCTV footage of cameras installed in the city. One team has been sent to the Bhucho toll plaza to check if the accused have passed from that route.
“Once the victim gets normal, we will make sketches of the accused,” he said. A case has been registered at the Civil Lines police station.
