Two arrested for fraud
Bathinda: The police have booked three persons in two cases of fraud registered at the Civil Lines and Sangat police stations, respectively. The Sangat police have arrested two persons. In the first case, Janak Singh, a resident of Guru Teg Bahadar Nagar, Bathinda, lodged a complaint, stating that he entered into an agreement of land with Rupinder Singh, a resident the Ajit road area, Bathinda. He said he had deposited Rs 26 lakhs in the account of the accused to purchase land. After the deal took place, Janak Singh, would become the owner of 75 per cent of the land. But accused Rupinder Singh made duplicate papers to dupe him, Janak Singh said. After inquiry, the Civil Lines police have registered a case against Rupinder Singh under Sections 419, 420 and 467 of the IPC. Investigating officer Jagseer Singh said the accused would be held soon. The Sangat police have arrested two persons and registered a case on the basis of a complaint by inspector Jaskaran Singh against Somveer Singh, a resident of Haryana, and another person under Section 420 of the IPC. Both of them allegedly sold duplicate spray to farmers. The accused were arrested from Kotli Sabo village. TNS
Six booked for assault
Bathinda: The Maur police have booked six persons for assaulting a person and his sons at Ghuman Kalan village over some dispute. A case has been registered under Sections 324, 323, 148 and 149 of the IPC. In a complaint lodged by Chamkaur Singh, it has been alleged that Darshan Singh, Des Raj, Bant Singh, Jaspreet Singh, Hansa Singh and Harbhajan Singh, residents of Ghuman Kalan village, assaulted him and his sons on July 25. Investigating officer ASI Jageer Singh said the accused would be held soon. TNS
City boy to represent country in international judo meet
Bathinda: Harshdeep Singh Brar, a resident of Bathinda, is representing the country in International Judo Competition in ‘Summer Universiade’. The Universiade is an international sporting event and only second to the Olympics. As many as 9,000 athletes will compete in the event. The event will be held from August 19 to August 30 in Taiwan. Harshdeep’s dream to compete in the event turned into reality when he received sponsorship from the USA-based company, Health Soul. This is an online portal which provides comprehensive directory of hospitals and health insurance companies in more than 75 countries. TNS
Monsoon cycling ride
Bathinda Cycling Group (Regd), under its series of monthly rides, has arranged a monsoon ride on Saturday. The ride will be a night ride with 50 or 75 km options. The ride will be flagged off by SSP Bathinda from Badyal Hospital, Bibiwala Road, at 6.30 pm. Cyclists from Bathinda, Kotkapura, Guruharsahai, Jaitu, Abohar, Gidderbaha, Rampura and Patiala will participate in the ride. Three recovery vans/ambulances will run on the entire route. Three refreshment points have also been allocated en route. Those choosing the 50 km ride, will take the Bathinda-Bhagi Wander- Bathinda route while those choosing the 75 km ride, will follow Bathinda - Guru Kashi University - Bathinda route. TNS
Inspirational camp for girls
A one-day Inspirational camp for girls was organised under the guidance of headmaster Krishan Gopal at Shaheed Kuldeep Singh Government High School, Gill Patti, Bathinda, on Friday. Students along with their parents and members of the school management committee took part in the event. Krishan Gopal, speaker, informed the gathering about various welfare schemes which the government was running for the upliftment of girls. He said girls were no less than boys in this age of competition. Navpreet Singh, social science teacher, also inspired students to express themselves on every platform and grab the opportunity which comes their way. Poems and songs were also presented by students. Stage proceedings were conducted by punjabi teacher Usha Rani. TNS
Faculty development programme
Talwandi Sabo: A four-day faculty development programme (FDP) concluded at Guru Kashi University (GKU), Talwandi Sabo. Education experts from North-Western parts of the country participated in different sessions of the programme and delivered important scientific contents to participants which was the demand of the time for higher education and research. Gurlabh Singh Sidhu, chairman, was present at the valedictory function.
