Bathinda: The Kotwali police have booked two persons for allegedly raping a girl. The accused have been identified as Bhushan Kumar, a resident of Mehna Chowk area, and Nihal Singh. In her complaint to the police, the 24-year-old victim alleged that Bhushan Kumar was living in her house on rent. According to the victim, Bhushan and Nihal Singh raped her on May 7 by luring her with a job offer. The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 376 and 34 of the IPC. TNS
Youth commits suicide
Bathinda: A youth committed suicide by jumping in front of a train on the Bathinda-Ferozepur railway line. His body was found near the rail track in Jaito. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Akash Kumar, son of Raj Kumar. His family members said Akash was a student of BCom and was under stress as he had failed to clear three papers. The body was sent for post-mortem. TNS
Two injured in accidents
Bathinda: Two bike riders were injured in two accidents reported in the city on Tuesday. In the first incident, 18-year-old Adarsh Singh, son of Shailendra Pratap Singh, a resident of Tagore Nagar, sustained injuries after he met with an accident at Hanuman Chowk. In the second accident, 29-year-old Jasvir Singh was injured when his motorcycle was hit by another bike on Power House Road. He is a resident of Janta Nagar. TNS
3 of family booked for fraud
Bathinda: The police have booked three members of a Jalandhar-based family for fraud. The accused have been identified as Paramveer Singh, Jasveer Kaur and Sukhwinder Singh. Seeta Singh, a resident of Rampura, told the police that he contacted Paramveer Singh, a resident of Rurkaan Khurd, after seeing a wedding advertisement of his NRI son. He alleged that Paramveer told him that he would take Rs 20 lakh in dowry. "I gave them bank drafts for Rs 10 lakh on the day of engagement of my daughter Amandeep Kaur with Sukhwinder Singh. After the engagement, they took Rs 10 lakh more but did not agree for marriage despite repeated requests," he said. Seeta Singh also alleged that Paramveer Singh gave him a cheque for Rs 20 lakh by saying if they failed to do the marriage, they could get it cashed. The Rampura city police have registered a case against the accused under sections 420 and 34 of the IPC. TNS
2 arrested for stubble burning
Bathinda: Two persons were arrested for burning wheat stubble in their field at Rampura. Nirbhai Singh and Harvinder Singh, both residents of Mehraj Pati Kala, were booked under Section 188 of the IPC. Later, they were released on bail. TNS
