URMU members protest FDI in Railways

Members of the Uttar Railway Mazdoor Union (URMU), Bathinda, traffic branch and loco branch today staged a protest at the railway station against the ‘anti-labour’ policies of the Central government.

Their demands included blocking of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Railways and preventing it from going into the hands of business houses, discontinue the new pension scheme and restart the old pension scheme for the railway workers, implementation of the 7th pay commission report and washing allowance to the workers who had been given uniform by the department.

Branch secretary of the union, Sanjiv Chauhan, also raised the issue of poor condition of Thandi Sadak in railway colony and other link roads. He also demanded that these roads should be repaired at the earliest.

Chauhan also raised the issue of the garbage dump near the railway colony houses and demanded immediate its removal.

The protesters threatened to gehrao the AEN, Bathinda, if their demands were not fulfilled. — TNS
