Use thermal ash in making bricks, kiln owners told

In a bid to make brick-kiln owners aware of the advantages of using thermal ash in making bricks, the Punjab Pollution Control Board, in liaison with Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL), on Monday held a one-day workshop at Bhikhi in Mansa.

On the occasion, senior environment engineer Tejinder Kumar and environment engineer Paramjeet Singh and environment engineer Harjeet Singh addressed nearly 100 brick-kiln owners from Mansa, Sangrur and Barnala.

They were made aware of the importance and benefits of using thermal ash in making bricks.

The key speakers said the usage of thermal ash would not only help in reducing their dependence on soil but it also improved the quality, strength and finishing of bricks.

“If we mix 22.8 per cent thermal ash into the soil then its strength improves significantly. This strength has also been tested by the PPCB from an approved laboratory,” said Tejinder Kumar.

Brick-kiln owners Suresh Kumar and Surinder Mangla and senior vice-president of the Brick Kiln Association of Punjab Harvinder Singh Sekhon assured the PPCB of extending every possible help to it to introduce mixing of thermal ash into making of bricks.

Rakesh Jindal, a brick-kiln owner from Bhikhi, who is already using thermal ash in his brick kiln, said this new concept proved quite beneficial for him. He said he had been using thermal ash for making bricks at his brick kiln for the past five months.
