Though Congress candidate from the Bathinda parliamentary constituency Amrinder Singh Raja Warring lost to SAD’s Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Congress workers in Lambi have got a reason to smile. They are happy that at least they have managed to bring down the lead of the SAD in the former CM Parkash Singh Badals’ home turf.

Notably, during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Harsimrat had got a lead of 34,219 votes from Lambi. This time, she took a lead of 16,125 votes. Even in the 2017 Assembly elections, the former CM defeated Capt Amarinder Singh by 22,770 votes.

On this, Congress leader from Lambi Gurmeet Singh Khudian, who is also ex-president the Muktsar District Congress Committee, said, “We worked hard and managed to control the lead of Harsimrat. Though our candidate could not win, the workers are happy that at least they decreased the lead of the Badals on their home turf.”

Notably, Warring, his wife Amrita, Cabinet ministers Navjot Sidhu and Sukhjinder Randhawa, Zira MLA Kulbir Singh and the Congress team of Lambi had extensively campaigned in this Assembly constituency.

The decreasing vote percentage of the SAD in the home turf of the Badals has however worried its zonal in-charges.

A SAD zonal in-charge, who looks after six villages in Lambi, said, “We will have to devise a new strategy otherwise the number of votes may go down further in the Assembly elections. Further, some new faces will have to be appointed as zonal in-charges in Lambi.”
