Bathinda, March 13
The construction of Delhi-end foot-overbridge (FOB) has begun at the city railway station to facilitate the movement of passengers. However, there has been no provision to attach escalators, ramps and lifts to the FOB.
Besides, the FOB will only cover platforms of the railway station and it will not provide any facility to the areas falling adjacent to it.
Talking to Bathinda Tribune, senior section engineer (SSE) SS Chauhan confirmed that they had started the construction of the Delhi-end FOB and it would only facilitate passengers on platforms.
The FOB will be 41m long, 4.5m wide and 6,525m high from the railway tracks.
He said, however, the railway authorities are planning to extend the FOB to the areas falling adjacent to it. Moreover, after the extension of the FOB to the residential area, the Railways will also attach escalators, ramps and lifts to it.
City residents said if the FOB was extended to other areas, it would provide huge relief to the city residents along with passengers. Besides, it will also shift half of the crowd from the existing FOB to the Delhi-end FOB.
Gurnam Singh, a passenger, said, “It is a very good initiative taken by the Railways as physically disabled persons would not find any difficulty in boarding trains.”
