Bathinda, February 21
The Department of Architecture, Giani Zail Singh Punjab Technical University Campus, Bathinda, organised a two-day workshop on ‘Universal Design’ which concluded today. The workshop was organised in association with the Department of Architecture, IIT, Roorkee from February 20 to 21.
Prof (Dr) Gaurav Raheja, Associate Professor, IIT, Roorkee, conducted the workshop along with Prof Smita Suryawanshi, PhD research scholar which was attended by all faculty members and 45 students of BArch third and fourth year students.
Head of the Department, Prof Bhupinder Pal Singh Dhot welcomed and introduced the experts to the audience. He said the principles of universal design should be applied to community at large through planning and transportation.
Prof Ripu Daman Singh, faculty in-charge said the workshop with a pledge that the budding architects would design buildings which would address the needs of people with physical, perceptual and cognitive disabilities.
Dr Raheja is an alumnus of the Department of Architecture, GZS PTU Campus, Bathinda. He has done extensive research in the field of universal design during his PhD at the IIT, Roorkee. and further during the post-doctoral work. — TNS
