Gold for Shweta, Yashaswani gets silver

ONGC’s Shweta Singh clinched the gold medal in the women’s 10m air pistol by staving off a spirited challenge from Haryana’s Yashaswani Singh Deswal on Day 7 of the 59th National Shooting Championship.

Malaika Goel of Punjab won the bronze in this event at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range. Shweta qualified for the finals with a score of 386. After fluctuating between the second and the third spot till the 17th shot, she finally took the lead after the 18th and held on to it.

Meanwhile, Raj Chaudhary (Army) won the women’s 50m rifle prone event after she edged out Lajja Gauswami (Gujarat) after a keen contest.

Tejaswini Sawant of Maharashtra took the third position. Veteran India international shooter Pemba Tamang won the gold in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event. Neeraj Kumar bagged the silver and Wazeer Singh Rathee (BSF) won the bronze. — PTI
