Have you ever had a problem you would give everything to solve — a problem so difficult you would spend years of searching for a solution? When Jack Andraka was 13, he had a whole pile of problems like this. An outsider at school, he knew he didn’t fit in — and a close family friend was dying of cancer. But instead of giving in to the bullying and the despair, he decided to try to create a better method of cancer detection. After conducting two years of research and asking hundreds of universities and companies for help, to no avail, Jack was finally able to secure the lab space necessary to test out pancreatic, ovarian and lung cancers that has the potential to be over four hundred times more effective than the medical standard —  at a fraction of the cost. Jack was just 15 at the time he came up with this solution.

Acharya Mahapragya (1920-2010) — the tenth Acharya of the Jain Swetambar Terapanth — was a divine presence. One of the most revered Jain thinkers, he was often hailed as a ‘modern Vivekananda’. He delved deep into the inner world and devised Preksha Meditation, a scientifically tested system to know the self. He was also a scholar of Indian and Western Philosophy and religion, a prolific writer and the brain behind the Jain Vishva Bharati University. The book traces his growth from little Nathmal, who would fly into a rage and refuse to eat, to his asceticism, which earned him the name of Mahapragya — the very embodiment of wisdom and inner peace. It offers insights into his thoughts on science and spirituality, and the philosophy of anekanta. He has also won the Communal Harmony Award in 2004.
