They handed over the first certificate to an applicant here. Karnal became the first district in Haryana to take this step, Dahiya told The Tribune.

“This facility hasbeen started so that residents of the city can get a birth or death certificate which will have features making it last forever,” said Gupta.

No extra fee would be charged for this facility, she added. Dahiya said this certificate could not be destroyed easily as it had several features.

He maintained thatearlier they hadbeen issuing birth and death certificates onsimple paper, but the new one would be convenient for residents as there would be no need to get it again and again.

If one got a certificate, the person need not get it reissue, he said. It did not need any lamination and was water-resistant and tamper-proof, he stated.

He reiterated that it did not need attestation for passport, visa or any other verification. A person had to apply for the certificate in the same manner as earlier, he asserted.
