As the famous artist Henri Matisse once said ‘creativity takes courage’, and for Santokh Singh Dhaliwal, who dons many hats—as singer, composer and music director—it took a great deal of courage to self-assess his talent, work on himself before entering the battlefield.

Santokh trained himself in Indian and Western classical music and blended both to create a perfect fusion.  Santokh’s composition Channa Ve Ghar Aaja Ve won him accolades. That got him more projects which he feels proud to be associated with.

The journey, he says, “has been fantastic so far. Struggle is never meant to be easy. But, who says that one should not enjoy it. I come from a zamidar family and was the first one in the family to go to Mumbai. One has to learn first to produce good work and for that you need a guru to guide you. After all, I evolved as a musician and learnt the piano from Joe Fernandes and Benny Dsilva.” He dropped a single ‘Hip Wala Tattoo’ around Christmas last year which is his own composition. He is all set to release two more singles ‘Delhi Wali Jatni’ and ‘Mauja Kar Le Tu Kudiye’ with Sapna Choudhary  and Aakash Vats.

Talking about the competition and collaborations with other musical gems, he beams, “I am delighted to see singers now are coming together to experiment and collaborate with other vocalists. Nobody minds healthy competition as it only raises the bar for newcomers.”
