The broadband service of the BSNL which is in high demand after the mobile connectivity clampdown since August 4 has exposed the chinks in the government telephone services.
While a majority of Internet users have already switched over to different services due to the BSNL’s weak and interrupted supply, the clampdown has forced them to revert to the BSNL broadband, but hardships persist.
Long queue at different BSNL centres and people waiting for many days reveal that the system and infrastructure of the BSNL is either outdated or not updated to support the heavy demand.
An official in the department confirmed that the broadband infrastructure being outdated and running on very slow speed was not likely to serve the heavy rush of demand of customers . “The already laid down wires and many connection junctions are defunct for the past many years, which are never maintained. Besides, there are frequent dislocations at many points which remain unattended and are being temporarily repaired to serve the old customers,” said a source at the BSNL.
Meanwhile, a customer whose BSNL connection had broken down was given an ironic answer by the representative at the BSNL office who expressed his unawareness about rectifying the problem.
“A junior engineer only can correct the fault as there is no provision to look into the matter. He will come tomorrow,” an official at the exchange said.
Similar grievances came from other users of the BSNL who had been reporting to different BSNL centres in the region about the low connectivity of the broadband and frequent snapping off the Internet.
