As many as 30 SBI pensioners attended a health talk on ‘Stroke Awareness’ organised by Alchemist Hospital, Panchkula, recently. Dr Anurag Lamba, senior consultant (Neurology) at Alchemist Hospital, said, “One Indian suffers a brain stroke every 20 seconds and the number is increasing alarmingly due to changing lifestyles. At this rate, around 15-lakh Indians are affected by stroke every year and 90% stroke patients fail to reach hospital on time. The lifetime risk of stroke after the age of 55 is one in five for women and one in six for men.”

PSPCL chief urges farmers, consumers to plant trees

To commemorate Guru Nanak Dev Ji's 550th birth anniversary, Baldev Singh Sran, CMD, PSPCL, has appealed to all the electricity consumers, farmers of the Punjab and officers/officials of the corporation to plant more trees so as to make Punjab green and pollution-free state. To save the environment, he appealed to farmers for planting at least two new trees on their tube well hubs. He also advised them to plant more saplings in the vacant places of their villages and houses.

DMCH, Ludhiana, organises talk on Hepatitis Day

The DMCH, Ludhiana, organised a talk on July 28 to mark World Hepatitis Day. Dr Ajit Sood, head, Gastroenterology Department, said with nearly 70 million patients, India is ranked second after China with hepatitis infections. If not treated well in time, it can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer which is not curable. Vaccination and timely initiation of anti-viral treatment are vital to control hepatitis, he said.

Reliance Jio pips Voda Idea to become largest telco

Within three years of starting its commercial operations, Reliance Jio has become the country's largest telecom operator with a subscriber base of 331.3 million, surpassing Vodafone Idea which has reported a decline in its user base to 320 million by June 2019. Jio had pipped Airtel in May to become the second largest mobile operator with 322.9 million users and 27.80% market, according to TRAI data.

IndianOil is third strongest brand, says Brand Finance

Indian Oil Corporation Limited has been ranked as the third strongest brand in the country in a recent brand survey by Brand Finance. Basis its performance on parameters such as marketing investment, stakeholder equity, and business performance, IndianOil has been assigned a brand strength index (BSI) score of 84.6 out of 100, making it the strongest oil and gas brand in the country. IndianOil registered a huge improvement as compared to its previous score of 77.2 out of 100 in the survey last year.

BHEL expands footprint in nuclear business

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a prestigious order for erection work of reactor side equipment of 2x1000 MWe (Units 3&4) Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in Tamil Nadu, being set up under foreign cooperation (Russia). Valued at Rs 486 crore, the order has been placed on BHEL by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd.

Trident also recruited students at a package of Rs 9 lakh. Dr Avtar Singh completes 500 robot-assisted knee surgeries 

Dr Avtar Singh, chief orthopaedics surgeon, Amandeep Group of Hospitals, Amritsar, has performed 500 robot-assisted knee replacement surgeries in a year. Enumerating the benefits of robot-assisted knee replacement surgery, Dr Singh said it is the latest technology available for knee replacement across the world. He said the robotic surgery helps in decreasing blood loss during surgery, faster recovery and helps the patient get back to normal life much quicker.
