NBCC secures Rs 2,000-crore order from African nations

State-owned NBCC (India) Ltd has bagged an order worth Rs 2,000 crore to build high-capacity convention centres in nine different African countries, namely Niger, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Liberia, Gambia, Burkina Faso, Togo and Gabon. It is an initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. As per the order, NBCC will build nine Mahatma Gandhi Convention Centres in African nations in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to raise the level of support for the vision of a prosperous, integrated and United Africa.

Power Grid signs pact with Ministry of Power  

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Power, Government of India, for the year 2018-19. The MoU was signed by Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Secretary, Ministry of Power, and IS Jha, CMD, Power Grid, in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry and Power Grid. The MoU includes various targets to be achieved by Power Grid during FY 2018-19. Capex target for the year has been set as Rs 25,000 crore. Other targets inter-alia include parameters related to human resources, project management, R&D and innovation and other efficiency and operational performance parameters.

BHEL bags order to set up hydropower project in Nepal

Amid stiff international competition, BHEL has secured a prestigious order for executing 900 MW Arun-3 Hydroelectric Project from SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company (SAPDC), Nepal. Once completed, this will be the largest hydropower project in Nepal. Located in Sankhuwasabha district, this project will substantially enhance Nepal's present installed power capacity and will contribute significantly to Nepal's vision of utilising its vast hydro potential for accelerated economic development.

National Public Relations Day celebrated at NDIM

Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) and New Delhi Institute of Management (NDIM) jointly celebrated the National Public Relations Day at NDIM Campus on April 21. Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat and former Chief Information Commissioner Ms Deepak Sandhu graced the occasion and shared their views on how citizens, especially the youth, can strengthen the Indian democracy by electing the best people. 

Over 550 students honoured at Apeejay Institute of Management

Dr Ajay K Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, IKG-PTU, Kapurthala, was the chief guest on the occasion. 

LPU bags excellence award from ‘Competition Success Review’ 

Lovely Professional University (LPU) has bagged double honours in CSR Excellence Awards Ceremony-2018 organised by 'Competition Success Review' in New Delhi recenlty. The event, which is held every year by the CSR Group, felicitates excellence in the education sector.  The university bagged awards in two categories - "CSR Top Institutes of India" and "CSR Top Distance Learning Institutes of India". On behalf of LPU, the awards were received by additional director Ms Ginni Nijhawan and deputy director Manish Kumar from SK Sachdeva, chairman and editor, CSR Group.

Orient records 35% market share in premium fans

Orient Electric Ltd., a part of the diversified CK Birla Group, has registered a robust increase in market share in the premium fans segment from 19% to 35% within a year. The company has grown by 150% in the segment following the launch of new variants in its premium Aero Series fans range featuring world-class technology. Premium segment comprises fans priced above Rs 4,000.

CGC, Landran, among top 10 institutions for patents

Adding yet another feather in its cap, Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Landran, has featured in the list of top 10 institutions from across the country in terms of filing patents in the annual report published by the office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, Trademarks and Geographical Indicators, Government of India. Ranked seventh, CGC, Landran, has taken the lead over premier private and public institutions like NITs, by filing 30 patents in a single year. Till date, the institution has filed up to 100-plus patents with more in the pipeline. 

Metro Cash & Carry opens collection centre in North 

Metro Cash & Carry has opened its first collection centre in North India to procure produce of fresh fruits and vegetables directly from local farmers. The centre will support and supply fresh produce to six Metro wholesale stores located at Zirakpur, Amritsar, Jalandhar, two stores in Delhi, and the recently opened outlet in Meerut. Spread across 2,000 sq ft at Sanoli Khurd in Panipat, the collection centre is slated to directly benefit over 200 native farmers from across 25 villages.

Healthcare Smartz signs MoU with Canadian college 

Mohali-based Healthcare Smartz (an APPworx company) has signed an MoU with Sprott Shaw College, Vancouver, Canada, which will help regional nursing students to enhance their skills and allow employability opportunities in Canada. The MoU was signed by Patrick Dang, president SSC, Canada, and Manipal Dhariwal, co-founder, APPworx, and Nitin Monga, co-founder, APPworx, at Sebiz Square, Sector 67, Mohali.

Paul Merchants holds business meet with Uzbekistan envoy

Paul Merchants organised a business meet with Ambassador of Uzbekistan Farhod Arziev at their corporate office in Chandigarh recently. Leading businessmen representing various chambers of industry and commerce participated in the meet to explore opportunities of bilateral trade between the two countries. Arziev briefed the delegates about the huge potential and opportunities available in various fields such as travel and tourism, pharma, textiles, super speciality hospitals, education and hospitality in Uzbekistan.

NFL records net profit of Rs 212.77 crore in FY18

National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) has registered (standalone) a record total income from operations of Rs 9,025 crore with a profit before tax of Rs 334.83 crore for the year 2017-18 which is also best ever in the past 15 years. The company earned net profit of Rs 212.77 crore for the financial year.  During the year, the company has recorded highest ever urea production of 38.10 Lakh MT with a capacity utilization of 118% that accounts for 15.9% share of the total urea production in the country.
