NHPC opens PMBJP centre at Tanakpur Power Station

Nikhil Kumar Jain, Director (Personnel), NHPC Limited, inaugurated the ‘Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP)’ centre at Tanakpur Power Station Market Complex, Banbasa (Uttarakhand), on August 16. It plans to open more such centres at various locations, including Uri-I Power Station (J&K) and Teesta-V Power Station (Sikkim) for the service of the local people. Rais Mian, General Manager, Tanakpur Power Station, along with other senior officers were among those present on the occasion.

Max Hospital completes 500 kidney transplants

Max Super Specialty Hospital, Mohali, has announced the successful completion of 500 kidney transplants at its kidney transplant unit. Dr Munish Chauhan , senior consultant-Nephrology and kidney transplant, said  Max centre was the first in the region to perform ABO incompatible transplant, performing transplants in HIV positive individuals and handle majority of transplants involving live donors.

LIC eases claim-settlement norms for Kerala flood victims

LIC has relaxed norms for claim settlement of Kerala flood victims. The death certificate is not mandatory and LIC will accept the certificate issued by authorised government officials or the proof that the claimant has received ex gratia from the government as alternate proof of death. In deserving cases, a certificate issued by the agent concerned, subject to certain conditions, or a confirmed development officer can also certify the death of life assured. Late fee on premium due has also been condoned for a period up to 30 days from the date of declaration of calamity. Claim investigation is also waived irrespective of the duration of the policy.

Fortis introduces new technique for sinusitis management

Fortis Hospital, Mohali, has introduced a technique involving the placement of a stent in the sinus opening to dilate it so as to provide drainage of the sinus contents. Dr Ashok Gupta, Director, ENT and Head and Neck Oncology, Fortis, Mohali, introduced this technology here. This device has been brought to Indian by Alliance World in partnership with SinuSys.

CGC, Landran, signs pacts with US, Belgium varsities

To enhance its students’ international exposure and provide them broader avenues for honing their academic and research skills, Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Landran, has signed MoU with PXL University College, Belgium, and CBU, Tennessee, USA. The MoU with PXL University would facilitate exchange of students and faculty in business management, communication management, tourism and leisure management besides enhancing collaboration on research and curriculum. The MoU with CBU, USA, would enable CGC's engineering students to gain direct entry into the American University through progression/credit transfer programme.

Pre-pitching session for ‘Punjab Start-up Summit’

The Punjab Chambers of Commerce & Industries, in association with the Ministry of Electronics & IT, held a pre-pitching session with start-up owners at STPI, Mohali, recently as part of the "Punjab Start-Up Summit & Tech Awards, 2017" scheduled for August 31. The event was aimed at providing the start-ups with mentors, technical support, market assistance, funds to invest and professional networking to achieve their start-up dream.
