BHEL commissions 93-MW power plant at Hazira

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has commissioned a 93 MW steam turbine-based captive power plant (CPP) at Hazira in Gujarat. This is the second unit of the 4x93 MW steam turbine-based CPP, being set up by BHEL for Reliance Industries Limited, at Hazira. For the same customer, the company is also setting up a 3x93 MW steam turbine-based CPP at Dahej in Gujarat. In FY 2016-17, BHEL has so far added 600 MW capacity to its CPP segment to date, in addition to the power utility segment capacity addition of 2,180 MW. The company is aggressively pursuing opportunities in its industrial segments, apart from conventional power utilities. Its industry segments include captive power plants, defence equipment, transportation, solar, compressors, oil rigs, HT motors, etc.

NHPC team attends 19th India Power Summit

The India Energy Forum organised the 19th India Power Summit on “Changing role of power sector in achieving higher GDP growth” on November 23 at New Delhi. Addressing the summit, NHPC Chairman and Managing Director KM Singh said: “Gross domestic product (GDP) is directly linked with electricity and is a key macroeconomic indicator for the power industry.” He also highlighted advantages of hydropower as compared to other sources for power generation and issues affecting hydropower development such as land acquisition, obtaining of clearances, environmental issues etc.

NTPC Talcher plant achieves highest generation in a day

Talcher station of NTPC achieved its best single day generation of 11.496 million units of electricity at 104.13% plant load factor (PLF) on November 23. With an installed capacity of 460 MW, the station has four units of 60 MW and two units of 110 MW each. The station was taken over by NTPC from the erstwhile Orissa State Electricity Board in 1995 and had already outlived its prime. The turnaround story of the Talcher thermal plant is a masterpiece of NTPC’s operation and maintenance practices which led to its spectacular journey from 19% PLF in 1995 to a 90%+ PLF for eight years. The station has witnessed transformation by the virtue of CSR initiatives after becoming the part of NTPC family.

RK Saboo gets PHDCCI lifetime achievement award 

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar inaugurated the 111th Annual Session of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the presence of its president Mahesh Gupta and senior vice-president Gopal S Jiwarajka on November 26. He emphasised on ethics in business for transforming India to be one of the leading global economic power. He also called upon the PHD Chamber of Commerce to open up anti-corruption cells and fight those that implicate businessmen with false allegations. He also gave away the PHD Chamber Annual Awards for Excellence in various fields. The Good Corporate Citizen Award was conferred on National Thermal Power Corporation. Trident Limited bagged the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Social Welfare. The Distinguished Entrepreneurship Award went to Narendra Bansal, Chairman and Managing Director, Intex Technologies Ltd. The Outstanding Businesswoman Award was given away to Jyotsna Suri, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Hotels and the Award for Excellence in Skill Development was conferred on Jubilant Life Sciences. However, the Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on RK Saboo, Chairman, KDDL Ltd. 

AAI to recycle waste paper of Finance Ministry 

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has added another feather to its cap by signing an MoU with the Ministry of Finance for recycling waste paper of Ministry of Finance at AAI's Paper Recycling Unit (a CSR initiative by AAI), Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, with a view to promote waste paper recycling as part of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' and to supply the recycled paper back to the ministry. On behalf of AAI, Chairman Dr Guruprasad Mohapatra signed the MoU with Ms Annie G. Mathew, Joint Secretary, Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance. The MoU was exchanged on November 15 during a ceremony to mark the beginning of Swachhta Pakhwada and taking Swachhta pledge at the Ministry of Finance. AAI has already been recycling waste paper for self, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Prime Minister's Office, DGCA, BCAS, CISF, CRPF and Delhi Police etc.
